In case you’re wondering who the Tango-ing couple is on the image above, that’s the Japanese couple, Kyoko Yamao and Hiroshi Yamao, sharing a dance after winning first place in the Tango Salon competition during the VII Tango Dance World Championship in Buenos Aires on August 29, 2009.

It is a usual topic of conversation about the global impact of tango, to talk about the popularity that the 2×4 has in Japan. The numerous Japanese presence in Tango at Buenos Aires as dancers as well as spectators, attests to it. Journalist and producer, Gabriel Soria, talked about this and much more in his research material for his book to be called, “El tango en Japón.”

The official story of this romance goes that a member of Japanese royalty, the baron Tsunayoshi “Tsunami” Megata, returned to Tokyo after a stay in Paris with the tango virus in his blood. Decades after, during the Second World War, the prohibition of the diffusion of Jazz, consolidated the popularity of tango in the Far East.

A little bit of unusually-heard-of history. Anyone up for a Tango… roll, that is.

Our very own, Charly, will be the host of the event and we will be making some changes to make the event more family-friendly. There will no longer be open mic, the show will be set up with several different comedians who will have a specific time limit for each along with Charly doing a few minutes between the comedians. Get ready for a great time!

There was a possible gas leak coming from us or the Thai house next door.

From 11:00 am until after 1:00 pm, when we got our gas line turned back on, we could only do “traditional sushi” and no fried stuff. So for customers who thought we were on fire, not to worry! That was a harrowing experience from 10:00 in the morning!

For our part, Richard is playing live at Bushido on Friday, the 24th, and he suggested we make that the day of the benefit. We agreed, and so we’re blogging about it this early. Maybe some of our most loyal followers and customers can show their support for Nick!

If you hadn’t heard, Nick Collins, a lifelong Charleston resident, good friend to so many, and a part of the band, Fowler’s Mustache, was severely injured in a car accident on 526 last week along with 2 other passengers. Due to the extent of Nick’s injuries, he has a considerable amount of time left in the hospital recovering, as well as many months of upcoming rehabilitation. Every day, the improvements Nick has made have been nothing short of a miracle and many continue to pray for more good news every day.

In her latest update, on Day 13, on Nick’s Caring Bridge Journal, Courtney Collins Oberly wrote:

Nick had a very good day today. The surgery was later in the afternoon so mom and dad got some time with Nicholas in his room. He is responding more and showing signs that he knows they are there.

The surgery was fast and easy on him with a miniscule amount of blood loss. Needless to say we knew something just was not right when we saw the surgeon come out so early in the process. The severe wound to the backside has taken its toll on Nicholas’ glute muscles and was determined to be beyond repair. The surgeon explained that without the support of the glute muscle he most likely will not be able to save any part of Nicholas’ left leg. The glute muscles are important for leg prosthetics, so without this muscle the chances of Nicholas being able to have a prosthetic leg is very small.

While there are options with skin grafts and using the upper leg muscle, the chances are still small and could affect his stabilization in the long run. Therefore we are faced the reality of Nick having to spend the rest of his life with one leg. Crutches will help him get around but his best form will be a wheelchair.

Please show your support for Nick! As in the past few Fridays, we’ll be doing a Google+ Hangouts On Air so we’ll be broadcasting it live. Richard Lorenzo starts his gig at 10pm.
